Lee Griffith, Teaching-Artist
Lee Griffith started playing cello in the third grade. As a child growing up with his grandmother and sister, there wasn't a lot of extra money in the family for extra-curriculars. He was only able to take private cello lessons because of a special program in the school district that provided discounted lessons to lower income families. During his childhood, Lee attended Suzuki Summer Institutes in Chicago, Columbus and at the University of Louisville, where he won the Mastropauolo Merit Award. In 2011, Lee attended the Sphinx Performance Academy at Oberlin Conservatory.
Achieving a full ride to the acclaimed College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, Lee pursued a degree in cello performance, but transferred to a business program during his second year. During the spring semester Lee received word about teacher training that led to a totally different life path. Lee completed the rigorous requirements for Suzuki cello teacher training during his second semester in business school and decided to return to music school and finish out his cello degree.
As a result of attaining Suzuki Teacher Training, in 2015 Lee found a true passion in life and started a private teaching business in Cincinnati. The Griffith Talent Education Studio consisted of a full studio of 40+ cello students aged 6- 65 from all ends of the city! Lee is now rebuilding his studio in his new home in Boulder, Colorado.
